Is It Required That You Have Your Medifast Lean And Green Meal At Dinner?

ByLindsey Price

I get a lot of questions about the Medifast lean and green meal. Many people understand that they need to prepare one healthful meal for themselves each day. But they aren't sure when they have to consume this meal or what time is most appropriate.

I heard from someone who said: "Do you always have to have the lean and green meal at dinner? Or is there some flexibility? I will probably eat it for dinner sometimes, but I'd like to have it for breakfast or lunch occasionally. Is this possible?"

It's my opinion that this is completely possible or permissible. I don't always have my main meal at dinner time. And I know someone who always takes her lean and green for breakfast because she believes that this gives her more time to burn off the calories that the larger meal contains. However, she's single and doesn't have children. I like to be able to sit down and eat a larger meal with my family. So every one is different and that's why it's helpful that this plan is so flexible.

Plus, if you think about one of the objectives of the lean and green meal, it is to make sure that you eat fresh and healthful food and you learn how to plan for and prepare your own meals. This is partly so that when you lose the weight, you can transition back to regular life. And part of that regular life is going to require flexibility. There will be days that you might want to eat a larger breakfast or lunch. And that's why learning how to be flexible with your lean and green meal (and it's time frame) is a good skill to learn.

The woman who wrote me might want to eat out with clients and have one of the prepackaged meals for dinner. Or she may want to have a homemade and leisurely breakfast on a weekend. I believe that all of this is fine as long as you are keeping the lean and green requirements in mind (which are 5 - 7 ounces of lean protein or meat and three servings of vegetables.) There are a number of ways to accomplish this, but nothing says that you need to accomplish this at any set time of the day. An omelet is a great way to meet these requirements at breakfast and a soup, salad or stir fry is a wonderful way to do this at lunch or at dinner. You can do this at restaurants as long as you are careful when you place your order.

Some people mistakenly think that you have to commit to one meal and stick to that. In other words, they believe that if you chose to have this main meal at breakfast, then you must always commit to breakfast. This isn't the case. You can have a larger breakfast on Monday, a lean and green dinner on Tuesday and then switch back to a lean and green lunch on Wednesday. You can adjust as your schedule changes or if you want to socialize. But the idea is to have one larger prepared meal yourself and 5 prepackaged meal each day, regardless of the timing. This diet is really meant to be flexible and to teach you to make your own choices. It's my opinion that you don't need to tie yourself down or make this harder than it needs to be.
