Extreme Diets For Teenage Girls

ByJenny Knight-Tempest

Diets for teenage girls can easily make her feel and look much better. Adolescence is a time of rapid growth when tons of energy is needed. This leads to a huge appetite and this goes horribly wrong when the wrong types of foods are wolfed down.

It's well worth teenagers taking the time and effort to eat healthily. Aside from helping deal with annoying adolescent issues like acne and "puppy fat", a healthy body is more attractive to boys and it makes the girl feel happier. It's a simple truth: if you want to feel happier, eat better!

A recent study found that teenage girls were eating far too much saturated fat, sugar and salt and not nearly enough carbohydrates. Scare stories about carbohydrates are putting teenage girls off eating rice, pasta, bread and potatoes. This is silly, because these foods are essential for growth and well-being in any teenager. All right, so a huge mountain of spaghetti, oozing high-fat meat sauce may not be the best idea for a healthy lunch, but a small plate of macaroni cheese with sliced tomato, salad leaves and cucumber, would be ideal. It's all about eating "real food" in moderation.

A lunch of soda and fast-food burger will possibly contain enough sugar to generate energy to keep an adolescent going all day long. But a meal like this would contain little that is beneficial to a teenager's body-growth. Little or nothing in the way of vitamins, precious few minerals but plenty of saturated fats. Eating fast food is fine provided it is combined with healthy foods, but in the case of obesity, it should be the first casualty on the war on fat.

Vitamin deficiency is often a dangerous but unseen problem. Diets for teenage girls often lack enough iron. The main source of iron in food is red meat, but there are plenty of alternative sources, such as dried fruit, bread, green leafy vegetables and fortified breakfast cereals. A healthy breakfast of an apple, followed by a good quality breakfast cereal (read the packet to see if there are added vitamins) with sliced fruit, and a glass of orange juice on the side, would be ideal. Maybe a slice of wholemeal toast to finish off. The vitamin C in the orange juice is beneficial in itself and will help the body absorb the other nutrients.

Calcium deficiency is also rife in teenage girls and could lead to problems in later life, especially with the danger of osteoporosis. Bones continue to grow and strengthen until the age of 30, and food taken in teenage years is vital to this process. Calcium-rich foods, such as milk and cheese, should be consumed every day. Some teenage girls harbor worries about fat in dairy, but you can substitute low-fat milk and yoghurts.

These foods are essential components of diets for teenage girls:

Starchy carbohydrates: pasta, rice, bread, breakfast cereals, potatoes and couscous.Lots of fruit and vegetables. As much as you can handle. At least two servings of protein: meat, fish, eggs, baked beans, beans, pulses. Two to three portions of dairy products, such as milk, cheese and yoghurt.Ideally, it will help to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day (no soda or tea or coffee).

Avoid fatty foods, high-sugar processed foods and all sodas. Take a little exercise: something you enjoy, such as dancing, walking, running or soccer. Diets for teenage girls will work best when coupled with regular exercise.

Be happy, be healthy and you will see lots of benefits. Find out more about Diets For Teenage Girls at Jenny Knight-Tempest's controversial website, Different Diets.

Diets That Are Too Restrictive Are Much More Likely To Fail

ByJanie Behr

Expert Author Janie Behr

Rather than never allowing yourself anything that you really enjoy, I believe in sticking with healthy eating habits and allowing for the occasional indulgence. However, there are some food villains that should be avoided at all costs. Here are my list of the top 5 foods that should make you "just say no"...

Fried food: There is really nothing good to report about greasy, fried food. It is often laden with trans fats, and terrible not just for your waist line but your overall health. And, of course, fried foods tend to be significantly higher in calories than other options. If you really must indulge, look out for the baked varieties of your favorite treats and watch your portions, or make you own chips or fries at home in the oven.

White bread: Unfortunately, white bread is so processed that it has negligible nutritional value, and most of the nutrients it does contain have been added back in. In any case that you can, always opt for the whole grain option. Whole grain bread is less processed, more nutrient dense, and also contains significantly more fiber. If you really want to get healthy, try one of the sprouted grain breads that you can find at most health food stores.

Artificial sweeteners: A lot of people trying to lose weight turn to artificial sweeteners because they are calorie free. But what's the trade off? In truth, artificial sweeteners are just that: artificial. There is also some research showing that they may actually be tied to weight gain, not weight loss. I recommend using any sweeteners in moderation, but always choosing natural options such as honey, agave nectar, or stevia extract. Also, pay attention to labels, sugar-free does not always equal calorie free.

Margarine: A lot of us grew up using margarine because it was supposed to be the "healthy" alternative to butter. We now know that this isn't really the case. Much of the margarine available is high in trans fats and has been shown to raise LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol. Try using a healthy oil such as olive oil instead, or look for one of the new heart healthy spreads. If you can't, then butter is the better option. True, butter is a saturated fat, but (when used in moderation) it can help to raise your good cholesterol.

Soda: It really can't be said enough; soda is pretty much nothing but liquid sugar. One 12oz. can of soda contains 39 grams of sugar and 150 calories. This is a lot of sugar, and very rarely are people drinking just one small can of soda. More often we are consuming the much larger bottles or fountain drink sizes. All of this sugar increases your risk for obesity, diabetes, and other related diseases.

The Great Benefits of Juice Diets

ByAdrian C Pursglove

Expert Author Adrian C Pursglove

Juicing fruit and vegetables is an advantageous way to give your body a bump-start of great nutrition. I set-out quite a few benefits in my previous article but wanted to build on these ideas.

Juicing is becoming increasingly popular and we have started to understand how beneficial it can be, but some of the articles I have read seem to get a bit confusing. I don't want to encounter confusing medical jargon about the mystery of how my body works, I want to know in easily understood terms; what it does and how that benefits me. I don't want to be blinded with science so I shall try to do this in the following article; I want to set-out 3 excellent explanations as to why juicing benefits your body:

1. Juiced fruit and veggies get digested easier than food that hasn't been juiced meaning the natural goodness gets into your body quicker.

2. When you juice, you are consuming more fruits and veggies than you would actually eat if they were whole. Therefore you get even more concentrated vitamin and mineral natural goodness about your body.

3. Detoxification - Put simply, nearly all the pre-prepared food we consume have a large number of different chemicals like preservatives and colourings, these preservatives and colourings are not natural for the body and can in time be harmful. Drinking freshly squeezed juice helps to wash these harmful chemicals (toxins) away

Below are how the body can benefit from juicing:

Getting a heart that beats with health:

The health filled vitamins in Fruit and veg such as vitamins C and E help the blood to work efficiently and to stop it clogging up. You may have heard of Cholesterol and Triglycerides but quite simply they are the fat content in your blood which can cause, amongst other things, heart disease. Blood that has health makes it all run smoothly (Cardiovascular system) and so is really good for your vital organs and a healthy heart. Vitamin C is known to be in most vegetables and fruits, some more so than others. Some may be surprising, here are the top ten:

1: Hot Red & Green Peppers (Chilli)

2: Guavas

3: Bell Peppers

4: Herbs such as Thyme & Parsley

5: Greens (Dark & leafy)

6: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts

7: Kiwi Fruits (Chinese Gooseberries)

8: Pawpaw

9: Oranges and Clementines (Tangerines)

10: Strawberries

Vitamin E is present in the following fruit and vegetables; mango, blackberries, kiwi, asparagus and spinach. Potassium is excellent for the heart and liver because it fights against the negative effect of salt which is in a lot of our pre-packaged food. Fruit and veg bursting in Potassium are; broccoli, peas, tomatoes, citrus fruits, cantaloupe, bananas and apricots. A good reason why juicing fruit & veg is because you don't consume too many natural vitamins whereas taking into your bodies too many vitamins through supplements is not such a good idea. Magnesium ensures the heart functions properly and ensuring the heart beats constantly. Magnesium is found in plentiful supply in bananas, guavas dates and passion fruit.

When juicing, not only is there a rich supply of the aforementioned vitamins and minerals but you can also lose weight meaning less strain on the body's organs.

Detoxify

The liver has lots of important purposes, such as making sure the blood is cleansed by removing not wanted toxins & chemicals. As has been mentioned previously these toxins are found in a lot of the food we eat and are part of modern life and juicing helps to dilute these toxins and chemicals and enables the body to extricate them. You may have heard of the nutrients I am just about to list which all aid in detoxifying the body by strengthening your liver; antioxidants beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and N-acetyl cysteine and niacin. Foods rich in these nutrients are; Lemons, oranges and limes, Onions, carrots, artichoke, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, garlic, beet, turmeric, and oregano.

Alkalizing your body (vegetables):

Fruit can often be acidic, to allow for a balance of this it is preferable to eat foods which are more alkali (such as vegetables) which is why it is best to mix fruit and vegetables when getting ready for juicing. This process can be quite complex and requires some help. I have recommended a great course that provides for you to keep this balance and the best fruit and vegetables to use and how the combinations work and what the benefit is. I haven't got enough time in this article to go into all the reasons why the PH level of ones body should be less acidic so I have set forth just a few reasons;
• Improved brain function
• Ensures blood sugar levels are normal
• Helps maintain proper cholesterol levels
• ensuring the heart works well
• helps to maintain the circulatory system and that it is healthy
• Encourages normal energy levels
• The promotion of sound joints and healthy bones,
• healthy immunity

The digestive system works well Ensuring a healthy skin with good hair, eyes and nails:

There are vitamins which give healthy looking hair and skin. Vitamins A, C, E and Zinc (to name a few) Vitamin A helps to strengthen your teeth, soft tissue, mucous membranes, vision and skin. Vitamin A is known to be in dark-colored vegetables, Carrots, pumpkin, spinach, grapefruit, apricots and broccoli these have healthy levels of beta carotene. Beta-carotene (as an antioxidant), helps the body in its fight against free radicals, which sound like some subversive left-wing group but are actually not very nice molecules that make you look older and can contribute to certain chronic diseases. By juicing blackberries and blueberries together will give your body with a really good source of vitamins C and E. Not having enough riboflavin (vitamin B2) has been known to cause cracked lips, hair loss, dermatitis, greasy looking skin and other types of skin conditions. Foods packed with Riboflavin are; Avocado, Banana, grapes, mangoes, passion fruit, mulberries, Kale, spinach, mushrooms and asparagus. Probably the best vitamin for eye health is vitamin A and specifically beta-carotene, which is in orange colored fruits and vegetables. The body converts Beta-carotene into vitamin A. You've probably heard that eating carrots helps you see in the dark! Well this is not too far from the truth, they should certainly help you to see better as vitamin A is really important for your retina to work properly and prevent a condition called night blindness happening.

Burning energy!!

Because your juice is packed with minerals and vitamins means the body is packed with energy. A lot like filling only the best type of oil in your automobile rather than filling up with Some really poor grade engine oil that hasn't been changed in ages!!

Weight loss

You may have wondered when this was coming. Is this what you might have been 'weighting' for (sorry!!) You probably know the answer, It's why you've read all the way through this article. We all like out high fat, sugar laden foods (Unless you're one of those people that don't have this problem and in which case aren't even reading this!) The thing I love about fresh fruit and veg is the natural sweetness, Only that which is natural and healthy not processed. I'm committed to helping you lose weight like I have and feel so much healthier in your own skin, but it's not only about weight loss, it's about your body feeling healthy and having a vibrancy of life.

Why not visit my website www.juicediets.org and find out a great deal more and also have a look at my top recommendation. Hope to see you there!
